BTS [방탄소년단]: seven bright boys who gave K-pop a whole new meaning throughout their inspirational music.

For those of you who may not know this about me just yet, I’m a dedicated ARMY.

Before this whole Hallyu craze, I was mostly loyal to hip hop. The reason I became specifically interested in BTS was because of their hip hop print, which you can sense throughout their versatile musical style.

Today, I’m going to share with you how I joined the best fandom in the world.

Finding BTS

When I came across these seven magnificent boys for the first time, it was like finding a missing piece of my soul.

“War of Hormones” was my first BTS song, and I kept it in my playlist for the longest time. I wasn’t planning to listen to the rest of their songs, but their leader RM happened.

I came across one of his collaborations from 2015, and I was so hooked I had to keep discovering this lyrical beast. After I listened to his mixtape, I knew that I found myself a new artist to support.

Becoming an Army

You know how ARMY say Bangtan are seven? Well, falling for RM’s music made me want to hear more of BTS as OT7.

As much as their hype songs appealed to me, “Save Me” encouraged me to look into the boys’ releases and I found myself relating to their various youthful messages. By June 2016, I was a certified Adorable Representative MC for Youth and I claimed Namjoon as my bias.

Since then, the boys became my everyday salvation: their music represented my healing process, and their stories gave me strength to live on.

Bangtan Goodies

Personally, I believe that one of the best things about being an ARMY is enjoying the neverending BTS merchandise … Sadly, my wallet cannot always keep up.

Before I went to Korea, I started saving a special budget just to purchase BTS merchandise. I happen to be a fervent collector, so by doing this I amply satisfied that side of me on top of my inner ARMY.

I managed to acquire all of BTS albums, as well as some DVD releases, not to forget the mighty ARMY bomb lightstick. This is my proudest collection so far, and I intent to keep it growing as long as my savings humbly allow it.

Bangtan Effect

Fangirling aside, I feel spiritually connected to OT7. Their aura gives me serenity, and I know that every ARMY out there relates to this detail.

One thing that I have learned from these precious boys is that I can be me and still do things right. Therefore, for all of you reading this, I want you to stay true to yourselves: it’s not only a word of advice, it’s a life lesson.
